Definition of Intractable Pain

There are many definitions for IP and they are typically grouped into three categories, medical, legal, and laymen. For the purposes of our discussions here, I'll try to stick to one definition. My definition is:
Intractable Pain is a severe subset of chronic pain of malignant or non-malignant origin that causes measurable changes to endocrine and/or cardiac function (elevated BP/pulse, cardiac damage, altered cortisol or other hormones, etcetera) without adequate control.
Many people who define themselves as CP (Chronic Pain) patients are actually IP (Intractable Pain) patients. If you require opioids on a constant basis, you likely have IP, but the changes to your BP & pulse are already being managed.
